Passwords are like Toothbrushes…Change Yours Often!
When was the last time you changed your email password? If you are thinking back and can’t remember then it has been too long! Spammers are trying to get control of your email address. Key logger viruses are becoming more common place. A key logger works silently on your system tracking every keystroke you make and sending that information back to it’s owner. They will use this information to gain access to your email account and send out mass spam without you realizing this has happened. By changing your password often you make it more difficult for this activity to occur. Make sure you perform frequent virus scans on your computer.

Passwords are like Prescriptions…Don’t Share Them with Friends!

Do not share your password with ANYONE – not friends, coworkers or family members. Your password is the only thing that ensures privacy of your account. It is also your obligation to see that only you use your account. You are responsible to how your account is used, so do not let other people have access to it!

Passwords are like Long Underwear…Should be Long & Mysterious!

The longer your password is the harder it is for someone to figure it out. We recommend that your email password be between 6 – 16 characters in length. We also suggest that it would be a mixture of upper and lower case letters and numbers. You cannot use spaces, or the following symbols “ $ & ‘ \ - / _ * ; in your password.

When creating a password, don’t use anything that would be easy for someone to guess. Never try to use anything personal. Don’t use personal information your phone number, birth date, children’s names or license plate number. Try using the first letter of every word in a sentence instead that only you would know.

Passwords are like Bubble Gum..If Left Lying Around, Creates a Sticky Mess

Lastly and most importantly, keep your password a secret! Do not write your password down on a piece of paper. Instead commit it to memory. Never put your password on a sticky note on your monitor or desk.

Got Spam??
Over the last six months the Internet has seen a dramatic increase of 125% in the amount of spam. This increase has been reported from all of the major anti-spam vendors. We are working with our vendors and internal software to address this increase in spam. We are evaluating some possible solutions which would increase the restrictions on incoming email. Until this hindrance is reduced, you may see an increase in the amount of spam in your inbox and quarantine.

We have set up a new email address to report spam complaints – spam@midstatesd.net. When you see spam in your inbox, you can forward it to this address for evaluation. This email address will not be replying to your requests. If you have any further questions please contact our Midstate offices at 605-778-6221 or 605-234-8000 or at internet@midstatesd.net
